Our mission is to ensure that every Black Californian descended from enslaved persons is represented and supported through timely and accurate documentation. As the sole registrar of this kind in California, we hold a unique position in being able to directly impact the access to reparations and historical recognition for our community. Our commitment is rooted in the belief that every individual deserves to reclaim their heritage, and we provide the essential services needed to make this a reality. This includes facilitating the acquisition of critical documents such as birth certificates that are pivotal for verifying lineage back to 1865, without requiring sensitive information like social security numbers.
Our role extends beyond mere documentation. Since our inception, we have been actively involved in providing a range of public benefits, including housing, food, household items, and job referrals. These services are crucial for supporting the overall well-being of our community members, enabling them to live with dignity and stability. By integrating these supportive services with our documentation efforts, we not only assist in establishing a historical connection but also enhance the daily lives of those we serve. Our dedicated approach ensures that we cater comprehensively to the needs of Black Americans who are descendants of slaves, affirming our commitment to both their past and their present.
